Our Mission

World Compassion Fellowship sponsors ongoing teams and local medical providers to provide medical care for these refugees. Most refugees fled with nothing more than the clothes on their backs and have very limited access to ongoing medical care in their host countries. Please read a recent blog entry on one of our trips or view this Facebook video.

The Background

World Compassion Fellowship has historically sponsored medical teams to enter war zones, refugee camps and natural disaster areas around the world.  We’ve sponsored teams to areas as diverse as Sudan during the Darfur crisis and Haiti before and after the devastating 2010 earthquake.

As the Syrian Civil War has reached a critical stage, the toll on civilians is reaching terrible proportions.  The UN reports that more than 400,000 people have been killed and 1.8 million people have been wounded in the conflict.  More than 5.6 million people are now refugees streaming over the borders into Lebanon, Jordan, Iraq, Turkey and other surrounding countries.

At the same time, the sectarian conflict in Iraq has caused more than 3.3 million people to be displaced from their homes as they have fled to the same areas that the Syrian refugees have fled.  People groups such as the Assyrian Christians that have roots dating thousands of years have been forced to flee their homelands en masse.
