The Background
South Asia, home to over 1.9 billion people, is a culturally and linguistically diverse region encompassing eight countries: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. Its rich cultural tapestry includes Hinduism, Islam, Buddhism, and Sikhism as major religions, alongside hundreds of languages spoken. The region's economies vary from rapidly growing ones like India and Bangladesh to less developed ones like Nepal and Afghanistan, with agriculture, industry, and services playing significant roles. South Asia boasts a deep historical heritage, with ancient civilizations like the Indus Valley and a complex history of empires and colonialism. Despite facing challenges such as poverty and political conflicts, the region holds immense potential for growth and development.
